UHI has cancelled an engagement event next week called Together.
The launch event was set to be held at Eden Court in Inverness on Tuesday.
Promotional material indicated it was designed to "celebrate where we have come from, our achievements to date, and imagine, together, what is possible for our future".
People invited to attend were told "three new philanthropic funds anchored around UHI’s past, present, and future focus of sustainability, health and people and place, will also launch on the evening".
It was expected to include the premiere of UHI new film Together followed by talks from alumni, researchers and businesses its collaborates with, followed by a drinks reception.
The decision comes after it emerged the university is going through a management restructure in a bid to save £450,000.
UHI interim principal and vice-chancellor Vicki Nairn told staff: "As a result of these changes, I have taken the decision to cancel the Together engagement strategy launch event planned for November 22.
"This will allow key staff to concentrate on supporting students at the upcoming graduation, and to ensure that any future plans are as inclusive of the UHI partnership as possible.
"Our collective sustainability through increased student recruitment, and a continued focus on excellent experience for our students, remains very much at the forefront of my thinking. I am keen that our partnership continues to move towards a more sustainable, collaborative and inclusive approach."
Invitations to the Together engagement campaign stated: "UHI exists to have a transformational impact on the prospects of our region, our economy, our people and our communities.
"We know that knowledge generation and dissemination have the power to help solve current and future societal challenges. We believe, working together with our stakeholders, that we can lead the way in addressing issues such as climate change, regional health inequalities, and attracting and retaining talent to our region."
