Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious crash on the A9 at Carrbridge, which resulted in two people being taken to hospital.

The incident happened at around 2.25pm yesterday, and involved a red Nissan Qashqai travelling southbound and a grey Citroen C4 travelling northbound.

A 69-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and both have been described by police as being in a serious but stable condition.

The road was closed and diversions were put in place while officers carried out enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

Road policing Inspector Alistair Mackay said: "It's important we establish exactly what happened here. I am appealing to any witnesses who may have seen the accident or were driving shortly before it to come forward as soon as possible. I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1977 of January 19.
