Tulloch Homes, the largest housebuilder in the Highlands, closes down construction sites

After some confusion about the status of construction sites during the coronavirus lockdown Tulloch Homes has announced it is stopping work on sites from Fife to Easter Ross.

Chief executive George Fraser said: "We are in the process of handing over 10 completed houses to customers, some of whom are working in key services.

"We will continue to supply emergency cover to all our house purchasers during the closedown period. Many of these are involved with providing medical care and other key roles.

"Our sites have now been made safe and secure and we look forward to continuing to serve our communities when the time is right."

He added:"We hope all employees, suppliers, customers and their families can adhere to government advice and stay safe and healthy."

UK cabinet minister Michael Gove suggested this morning that construction sites could stay open and operational as long as staff adhered to rules on social distancing.

However this afternoon First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that construction work should only continue where projects are "essential", such as the creation of new hospitals.
