The shocking death of a popular Inverness chef has prompted friends to set up a fundraiser to help with funeral costs.

Following the death of 49-year-old Krzysztof Marchlinski, known as Melon, friends hope to raise £4000 to support his wife.

Mr Marchlinski worked at the Saffron in Cradlehall Court when he took unwell shortly before 3.45pm on May 26. He died at the restaurant despite the best efforts of colleagues, emergency services and people in neighbouring businesses.

He has been described by his colleagues, and those who knew him, as a “pillar of Saffron” who was kind to everyone who met him.

Mr Marchlinski is survived by his wife and two children.

He had moved to Scotland some 13 years ago, and had worked with the owners of the Saffron for 10 years, latterly in Cradlehall, and prior to that in Dingwall.

He was not only a chef, but also a handyman in the business.

His funeral has taken place, with a floral tribute on his coffin stating: ‘”Missed by many, forgotten by none.”

Daughter Karolina Gołuńska said her dad was one of the kindest people anyone could meet.

She said: “My dad was always looking out for other people. And many people have told us how kind he was in helping them.

“So many people that me and my family did not know have come to us to say how kind our dad was to them.

“He was simply one of the best people you could have met, and we loved him, and all desperately miss him.”

A fundraiser in memory of Mr Marchlinski is designed to generate money to help the family after his sudden death.

Friend, Lukasz i Andrzej Domieracki has set up the online crowdfunding page to help pay for the former chef’s funeral expenses.

He said: “This money is for the family to show our support in these hard and sad times.

“To many, he proved to be a good friend, always helpful, smiling, kind and cordial.

“Goodbye my friend.”
