Tribute paid to former Highland councillor who loved running

Highland Council has paid tribute to former councillor Ron Lyon who has died 88.
Mr Lyon, who was also a former Inverness Courier news editor, was elected to Highland Council in 1999 and again in 2003 for the Inverness West ward.
Previously, he had served as an Inverness district councillor, having been elected in 1992 to represent the Craigphadrig Ward.
He served on Highland Council’s Inverness area committee and was latterly a member of the planning, development, Europe and tourism committee, the transport, environmental and community services committee, the audit and standards committee, the sustainable development select committee and the land and environment select committee.
Mr Lyon leaves a wife, Iris, plus daughter Gail and sons Inglis and Edward.
Highland Council leader Cllr Margaret Davidson was among those who paid tribute.
"Ron was a very good colleague," she said.
"We served on the council for some years at the same time.
"Both Ron and his wife were very supportive of his civic duties at the Town House.
"I remember his love of running and keep fit and his dedication, insight, knowledge, and experience that he brought to debate in the council chamber.
"My deepest condolences go to his family and friends at this time."
Inverness Provost Helen Carmichael said: "Ron was a great mentor to me when I joined the Inverness committee as a new member.
"He was always kind, helpful and very patient in replying to all the questions I had.
"He was a wonderful councillor and a good man. My thoughts are with his wife and family."
