Local man Darren Smith took a team of friends to tackle the three peaks challenge last weekend to raise money for his niece who has been diagnosed with incurable fibrolamellar carcinoma.
Maisie Fraser (19), from Inverness, is currently fundraising so she can complete her bucket list.
Joined by friends and family, Darren set off from Inverness at midnight on July 8 to begin their journey up the three highest mountains in the UK.
They started on Snowdon in Wales where they enjoyed good weather and then moved on to Scafell Pike in England.
Then they were driven to Ben Nevis to tackle the tallest of the three mountains.
They came down the mountain smiling despite the tiring effort.
Darren and others had been training for months in the lead up to the challenge.
Mr Smith said: “Bruised and battered feet, aching legs and hips, sunburnt skin and exhaustion from lack of sleep. Scaling the highest peaks of Wales, England and Scotland within 33 hours, the effort, heart and support my friends have displayed over the last few days, weeks and months has been nothing short of tremendous.
“We all did it to raise money and support for my beautiful niece Maisie, who’s birthday it was on July 10, as she waited to greet each and everyone of us as we descended the final hill.
“I will be eternally grateful for everything everyone has done. It really has helped so much. You cannot take anything for granted in life. Make the most of what you have and be grateful for your family and your friends who feel like family when you need them the most.”
