Albyn Housing Association has submitted an ambitious proposal to install a new generation of advanced “assisted-living” homes in Nairn.

The so-called FIT Homes are one of the products of the City-Region Deal and aim to provide greater independence for tenants with various medical needs.

The plans are for the construction of 10 single-bedroom FIT homes near St Olaf Manor and Hermitage House.

The application has attracted some objection relating to an existing giant sequoia on the proposed site.

Objector Hamish Bain said: “I have examined the plans and I know the site well. I wish to object strongly to this development at this location.

“The application includes the removal of a giant sequoia along with many other types of trees.

“If the giant sequoia has to be removed to allow this development to go ahead it means that the site is being over-developed.

“A very small redesign to the layout of these houses would avoid any need for it to be removed.”
