Freezing fog is causing havoc at Inverness Airport with almost every flight affected today.

Both arrivals and departures have been hit with either cancellations or delays, with only a few flights managing to either take off or land.

Delayed arrivals included the 8.15am flight from Stornoway, the 11.45am from Kirkwall, the 12.10pm East Midlands flight, the 12.15pm from Belfast City, and the 12.40pm Birmingham flight – the 12.15pm London Luton flight was also delayed but managed to land at 1.43pm.

The 10.05am flight from Manchester and the 10.40am service from Stornoway were both cancelled while the 11.45am flight from London Luton and the 12.45pm flight from Amsterdam were both diverted.

A number of departures were similarly affected, with services to Manchester, Stornoway, Amsterdam and Kirkwall all cancelled.

Services to Belfast City, London Luton, Birmingham, Stornoway and Manchester are all currently delayed, while services to London Gatwick, Heathrow and East Midlands have managed to depart.

A spokesman for Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (Hial), which operates the airport, confirmed that flights had been disrupted due to the weather conditions and added: "We would advise passengers to contact their airline."
