HIGHLAND motorists have been urged to take care after reports of heavy snow in the Slochd area of the A9.

Traffic Scotland has asked drivers to “take care, drive to the conditions, and pack an emergency travel kit”.

However, they also revealed that a gritter was nearby, and live traffic cameras showed vehicles still moving on the road.

Meanwhile, BBC Scotland weather presenter Judith Ralston has revealed that more than eight inches of snow fell at a Ross-shire loch during yesterday's arctic blast.

Presenting last night's forecast she said that 22cm – or 8.5 inches – fell in the Loch Glascarnoch area on Wednesday.

The reservoir sits next to the vital A835 Ullapool-Dingwall trunk road, which was left in treacherous driving condition during the worst of yesterday’s snowfall.

However live traffic cameras at neighbouring Aultguish showed the road clear this morning.
