There was plenty of Christmas spirit in Inverness Town House over the weekend.

On Friday senior citizens were welcomed into the building as part of an open door session for city residents.

Provost Glynis Sinclair said it was important for people to have such access because the town house belonged to everyone.

She said the event was very inclusive because members of the Chinese community, from Starlight Stables Wellness Centre of Excellence in Ardersier, also attended and sang a Christmas carol from China.

“It was so inclusive for all faiths,” she said. “What was wonderful for me was the sound of laughter.

“It was such a brilliant time in the town house.”

The Provost said that she had met an 87-year-old woman from Inverness who told her it was the first time she had been in the town house.

She said: “She thanked me for opening it up for everyone. I said when I became Provost it had to be shared with everyone – the town house belongs to the city. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

As well as the open door session there was also a Christmas card competition.
