Town gets ready to welcome foodies as Taste of Nairn returns next weekend
NAIRN is ready to welcome locals and visitors alike as its popular food and drink festival is set to return.
Taste of Nairn will incorporate demonstrations, a wellbeing hub, tastings, and a number of individual events in the seaside town between April 28 and 30.
The event will also give the public a chance to put their culinary skills to the test in the World Tattie Scone Championship and a showstopper-style cake competition with a royal theme.
Organised by Nairn BID, the day will see a two-day artisan market in the Nairn Community and Arts Centre and will feature over 70 businesses.
Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said: “We are so excited about Taste of Nairn and it’s great to see that it is evolving.
“So, what people will experience if they visit us over the weekend, is a real ‘Taste’ of everything in Nairn – a whole heap of amazing things. There is something for everyone on the programme.
“We are very lucky to be hosting the World Tattie Scone Championship again which is being supported by the Oakwood Cookery School and the Showstopper Cake Contest sponsored by Lifestyle Magazine is also returning.
“People are invited to bring a royal-themed cake to the Nairn Community and Arts Centre on April 30 between 10am and 2pm.
“Both of these competitions are just a bit of fun, so we encourage people to come along and have a go.”
Since it was launched in 2019, Taste of Nairn has been evolving and this year, people can also enjoy paddleboarding and kayaking sessions, candle making, and live music events.
Visitors will be able to experience African cuisine, foraging along the River Nairn, a Cellar Raider event and special breakfasts, lunches, dinners and menus at various locations across the town.
Ali Asher, from Ashers Bakery, said: ‘‘Ashers Bakery is delighted to be sponsoring Taste of Nairn for the second time. It is great to see events like this happening in the town..
“In particular, this event puts a spotlight on what fantastic food and drink Nairn and the surrounding area offers, but it’s also great to see that it is evolving and that will hopefully keep it fresh and interesting for the years ahead. We are very fortunate in Nairnshire and the Highlands to have so many fantastic producers, suppliers and businesses.”
