A SCHEME designed to revamp Nairn as a first-rate seaside shopping resort has the potential to raise more than £120,000-a-year for town improvements, its project manager has said.

Plans for the project, known as a Business Improvement District scheme (Bid) are being drafted for consultation.

The scheme will be rolled-out if a majority of Nairn traders vote in favour of paying an annual levy into a shared pot.

The money would be spent on improvements – from street furniture to community events.

Bid project manager Alan Rankin told town councillors it could bring many economic benefits.

And the elected representatives have pledged their support for the plan, which will go to a vote next June.
