Tours of 'jewel in Inverness’s architectural crown' suspended
Tours of Inverness Town House have been suspended – due to the castle project.
Weekly guided tours of the Town House started in June 2018, promoted through High Life Highland which manages the Inverness Castle Viewpoint.
When launched, Highland Council said: "From the outside alone the Town House is acknowledged as the most visually impressive building in the city centre and the lavish interior within is a stunning example of Victorian opulence, with portrait paintings, stained glass windows and other artefacts on view. It is regarded by locals and visitors to the city as the jewel in Inverness’s architectural crown, particularly since the stunning renovation work was completed."
But for the now, locals and tourists are not able to do the tours, which cost £7.50 for adults and £4.50 for children.
A council spokesman said today: “The Inverness Town House remains at the heart of civic life within the city. Tours of the Town House had been previously arranged in conjunction with the operation of the Castle Viewpoint.
"Noting the current redevelopment of Inverness Castle which includes the Viewpoint, the Town House tours have been suspended. The council is developing a plan – which will be reported to a future meeting of the City of Inverness and Area Committee after recess – to enhance use of the Inverness Town House in order to make it as accessible as possible to the public and enhance its use as an events venue, which would include the return of Town House tours.
"These developments will provide for an exciting new lease of life for this much cherished city asset.”
