THE newest town in the Highlands looks set to get a community hall, outdoor nursery and 20 allotment plots before the year is out – as development on Tornagrain continues apace.

News that the new facilities are due to come to fruition comes just one year after the first residents moved into their new homes at the future town.

More than 50 homes are already occupied – and once complete Tornagrain is expected to house more than 10,000 people.

And Moray Estates, which is behind the development, is now seeking planning permission for the outdoor children's nursery, as well as a community space for exercise classes, clubs and local events. Twenty allotment plots will also be created later this year.

John Stuart, the Earl of Moray, said: "For years our vision has been to create a new town at Tornagrain which fosters a strong sense of community. With 50 homes already occupied, we are eager to enhance the town by bringing in new facilities – a nursery and a civic space were the top of our list.

"Residents also expressed an interest in fruit and vegetable cultivation, which is why we are also creating 20 allotment plots. These new facilities come in addition to a new children's play area, tennis courts and a café.

"We are looking forward to many more improvements to follow over the coming years that will enhance the lives of the people who live here."

In 2017, Moray Estates won the Rural Housing Award at Scottish Land & Estate's Helping It Happen Awards for the work they had done to develop Tornagrain and bring the vision of the new town to life.

The national awards, which are open for entries for 2018, recognise the role of estates, farms and rural businesses in supporting success in rural areas.
