RESIDENTS in an Inverness neighbourhood are being urged to submit their views over revised plans for the new Charleston Academy building and surrounding area.

A final pre-planning public consultation for the academy was held earlier this week, where members of the public were shown a revised masterplan for the project which had been altered in the face of earlier feedback.

The project team behind the plan to demolish and rebuild the academy had reshaped the proposals in response to concerns over loss of amenity green space to the south of the development, as well as other comments about car parking numbers.

These revisions included:

  • Reducing the footprint of the building to "minimise impact".
  • The amount of community green space in the proposals has been trebled in size compared to what was first proposed.
  • The existing playground has been retained and the basketball court replaced.
  • And car parking numbers have assessed and the number of spaces required to the south of the building has been "minimised".

However, the although the final pre-planning public consultation event was held online on Tuesday, the window to give feedback is still open.

But time is fast running out as feedback forms must be received by June 23 for consideration.

A copy of the presentation that was shared during the event and a feedback form to comment on the proposals is available here.

The council has stressed that, as a full planning application has not yet been submitted by the applicant, anyone who responds to this consultation is not making a representation to the council's planning committee. Those who wish to comment on that will need to do so again once the application has been lodged.

A council spokesman explained: "No application had been submitted to the Highland Council in relation to this proposal.

"Any comments made to the prospective applicant at this time are not representation to the council and would not be considered as part of any future application.

"If the prospective applicant subsequently submits a formal application for planning permission, there will be an opportunity to make representations on that application to the council."
