Cases of Covid-19 infection at a care home hit by a mass outbreak have risen overnight to 56.

NHS Highland says that, Meallmore Lodge, seven miles south of Inverness near Daviot, has now had 27 positive tests among residents and 29 among staff – an increase of three in all from yesterday

The health authority's updated figures follow an initial report of the outbreak on Thursday last week where a total of 35 people were affected.

The condition of those now isolating is not known.

Meallmore Lodge provides various forms of residential and respite care for elderly and vulnerable residents.

NHS Highland is working with health and social care colleagues, local community nursing teams, and local GPs to prevent any further spread of the virus within the care home and wider community.

It has also made a support team available to assist the owners of the home.

A spokesperson from Meallmore Lodge said: “We can confirm that a number of residents and staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

"This is, of course, a very worrying situation for families of residents and staff and we would like to reassure people that all Meallmore Lodge residents and staff were vaccinated with their first dose in January.

"With a combination of our own team supported by our trusted local agencies, we continue to maintain normal levels of cover across the home to ensure the wellbeing, comfort and safety of our residents.

"We have robust infection control practices in place and we are also working extremely closely with Health Protection Scotland to ensure that everyone at Meallmore Lodge receives the best possible advice and care.”
