THREE Inverness distributor roads have at last been named, making it easier for emergency services, visitors and delivery drivers to find addresses.
The distributor road behind Asda in Inverness is named Slackbuie Brae after agreement between the four local councillors for Inverness South.
Slackbuie is derived from the Gaelic for "yellow hollow",
possibly named after buttercups that grew there in the past when the area was grazing.
MacAskill Drive is the new road name for the main bus route through the upper section of Milton of Leys housing development.
It was chosen by the community after a public consultation by the community council.
Mr MacAskill was the last man to farm there before the housing developments began more than 20 years ago.
It begins above the Milton of Leys School near Pinewood Drive and goes downhill to meet Inshes Road at the mid point roundabout in Milton of Leys.
Finally a new sign for Milton of Leys Road has been erected just off the A9 at the Drumossie Hotel underpass and roundabout. It goes past the Milton of Leys primary school and downhill until it meets Inshes Road at the mid point roundabout.
Cllr Duncan Macpherson said: “I first highlighted the need for these distributor roads to have names attached soon after I was elected in 2017, however there was no budget to pay the costs involved for the additional road signs and then we encountered a two year delay caused by Covid restrictions.
“Delivery companies and their drivers often struggle to understand the directions given by householders without all roads being clearly named, especially at night."
The Inverness South councillors agreed to fund the new road signs from their ward discretionary budget.
