THOUSANDS gathered around Inverness Town House on Sunday evening to give Santa the warmest of welcomes as he dropped by to supervise the switching on of the city’s Christmas lights.

Hosted by Inverness Courier columnist Nicky Marr and MFR DJ Ginno Conti, the ceremony featured some rousing renditions of festive songs and Christmas carols provided by the cast of the Eden Court Theatre pantomime Cinderella and an animated light show by Arts in Motion.

More than 3000 people lined the streets to watch the arrival of Santa on to the top of the Town House.
