A plumber who shouted and swore at his pal's girlfriend and threatened to hit her with a glass bottle has been fined £640.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that the incident occurred in Kiltarlity on January 21 when 27-year-old Joshua Jack went to the woman's caravan at about 10pm.

Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said: "He started shouting and swearing at her. She contacted the police and when they arrived, she was very distressed."

Defence solicitor Duncan Henderson told the court that his client couldn't remember why he had done it.

"He was struggling with drink and drugs at the time but he has sought help. He has changed his acquaintances and got his life back under control.

"He describes his behaviour as disgusting and accepts he should not have behaved in this way."

Fining Jack, of Highfield Avenue, Inverness, Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald told him: "I still don't know why you distressed this woman unnecessarily. This behaviour is shocking."
