A thief ate a bowl of cereal after breaking into an Inverness B&B.

Stephen Scott (36) was captured on CCTV entering the kitchen of the house on Fairfield Road, Inverness at about 3.30am on the morning of January 2.

Depute fiscal Robert Weir told Inverness Sheriff Court he was seen entering the kitchen area and observed making himself some cereal before eating other items from cupboards then stealing an iPhone and documents belonging to the owner.

He left the property – before returning at about 5.30am where he ate more food before leaving again.

The fiscal said the B&B owner became aware at 7.45am his property had been entered and reviewed his CCTV.

He then discovered the damage to his window and found items at his back door including a bottle of wine, a diary, food and coins which were later found to belong to a neighbour.

Appearing from Inverness Prison, Scott admitted two charges of theft by housebreaking on January 2.

He was remanded until March 10 for sentencing.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson heard he was already on a community payback order for other offences.
