Bands and businesses preparing for Piping Inverness on Saturday

BUSINESSES across the Inverness area are set to get a boost as Piping Inverness gears up to take the city by storm.
More than 100 pipe bands from across the world are due to perform, with one taking away the prestigious title of European champions at Bught Park this Saturday.
The European Pipe Band Championships were to take place in the city two years ago but faced Covid-related delays.
The event will be launched with a cannon and visitors can expect lots of music, Highland dancing and family entertainment.
Inverness Provost Glynis Campbell-Sinclair said: “Piping Inverness is a fantastic event for the city.
“The event encompasses the long-established links with piping, and also brings economic value to the city, by way of encouraging locals and visitors alike to also enjoy our wonderful restaurants, shops and beautiful environment.
“I am delighted, as Provost of Inverness, that Piping Inverness is being supported by the Inverness Common Good Fund – and I have no doubt that this event will raise the profile of the city, and indeed the wider Highlands.
“I am sure the event will be a success and I wish all the competitors well.”
There will be an inflatable assault course hosted by the Scots Guards, a circus session from Moray Flying Circus and an activity session from High Life Highland (HLH).

“Having commanded numerous parades during my military career, I’m sure I will slot straight back into official duties,” he said.
“Piping Inverness and the European Pipe Band Championships is a massive coup for Inverness, in terms of the economic benefit, as well as the culture and for inspiring young musicians, some of whom are learning via High Life Highland’s own music tuition service, which runs across the region. I look forward to welcoming guests and competitors to the event.”
Caitlin Brown of LCC Live, the organiser of Piping Inverness, said: “With over 100 pipe bands coming to Piping Inverness from all around the world, we’re preparing to give them all a friendly, warm Highland welcome, which is why it’s so encouraging that the local community are coming forward and supporting the event.
“As well as the European Pipe Band Championships, the Drum Major Championships and the Highland dancing competition, we also have a number of local food and drink outlets, a craft and retail village and a funfair area. It will be a great family day out for all ages, and we hope you can come and join us!”
