A former councillor has been thanked for her years of service by members of the local community.

Margaret Davidson stood down at the recent local council elections, having been a councillor for the past 27 years.

As well as being a member for the Aird and Loch Ness ward, in recent years she was also leader of Highland Council.

Members of Glen Urquhart Rural Community Association (GURCA) organised a special reception for her at the Glenurquhart Public Hall.

Organiser Susan Clark said around 60 people attended the event.

She said: “Margaret had served this community for 27 years as a local councillor and over the past, I think seven years, as leader of Highland Council.

“The community here just wanted to recognise the contribution she had made to the community and to thank her for all the support over the years.

“We wanted to do that in a way that the community could actually come together and thank her collectively, so that was why we held the event.”

She said that Mrs Davidson knew in advance about the event because they had to arrange for her to be there.

She added: “She was a bit coy about the whole thing.

“The community were very grateful that they had the opportunity to come and say thank you to her.

“I think it was really warmly received by the community.

“I think Margaret was very touched by it as well and by the amount of people that came out and said ‘thank you’.”
