NATIONWIDE changes at supermarket chain Tesco will not affect the continued future of the grocer's smallest Inverness store.

The Tesco Metro on Tomnahurich Street is one of the 153 Metro stores across the UK which are bringing in changes to reflect evolving shopping patterns.

Like its larger stores, Tesco Metro stores were originally designed to cater for customers doing their weekly shop.

However, following research indicating that almost 70 per cent of customers use Metro stores for convenience shopping, the business has introduced a number of changes including reducing the amount of stock kept in storage and ensuring shelves are filled more quickly, but also saw a reduction in staff numbers.

However, a Tesco spokesman said that where staff were affected, they were offered alternative roles within the group wherever possible.

"In Inverness this would include in the nearby Extra stores. Indeed, we have recruited new colleagues into unfilled roles, including in the Metro store," he added.

Tesco have no plans for any major changes at the Inverness Tesco Metro.
