A 17-year-old has been charged in connection with an alleged robbery in Inverness city centre.

Police say the incident happened in the Market Brae Steps area at around 1.30pm on Sunday and involved a handbag being snatched from a woman in her seventies.

The bag and all of its contents have since been recovered and the woman was uninjured.

A 17-year-old is due to appear at Inverness Sheriff Court today.

Constable Ali Macrae from the city centre policing team said: "We would like to thank the members of the public whose prompt actions assisted greatly with the police investigation."
