AN enterprising student is hoping to turn her passion into a successful business venture that will reveal more about her home city to visitors.
Freya Boa (19), who is currently studying history and politics at Strathclyde University, has now applied to Highland Council for a licence to run walking tours around Inverness city centre.
The former Charleston Academy pupil says she has a real passion for the past and would love the chance to share that with more people if she is granted a street trader’s licence.
"I think there are so many stories about the city’s past that you can’t get from just walking around by yourself and that a tour is a great way to reveal them," she said.
"There are a lots of stories you have to tell – like anything to do with the Jacobites, which tourists will expect to hear, but I’m also keen to work in a lot of the history that people are perhaps less familiar with, such as the city’s links with slavery.
"I’ve grown up hearing a lot of the tales and I’ve been more seriously researching things over the past couple of years."
The tour, if it gets approval, would start on Church Street and go along Bank Street before finishing at Inverness Castle.
"It would take about an hour, which is enough time to tell a lot of stories, and I’m happy to take up to about 20 people," Ms Boa said.
Hoping to kick the tours off from the start of June, she will initially be restricting her activities to holidays periods, while she continues with her university studies.
"Tourism is obviously central to a lot of what goes on in Inverness and the Highlands, so I think there’s a lot of scope with a business of this kind to grow and develop," she added.
