A TEENAGER was warned he could be sent to detention after he admitted robbing a 70-year-old woman.

The incident took place on Market Brae Steps on March 31 this year and a police appeal for witnesses was issued afterwards.

Today at Inverness Sheriff Court, 18-year-old Sol Kelly of Eilean Donan Road, Inverness appeared before Sheriff Gary Aitken and pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court was told he had no previous convictions.

Sheriff Aitken decided on deferring sentence until June 25 for a background report before hearing the facts from fiscal depute Roderick Urquhart.

But he told Kelly: "This is an exceptionally serious offence and first offender or not, a sentence of detention will be uppermost in the court's mind.

"You should co-operate fully with social workers and tell them everything. If you have any issues, then you should inform them. It is important that you do this."

Kelly had his bail continued until next month.
