Teeing off for Highland Hospice golf charity drive at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club to boost Ness Factor funds

Keen golfers will be able to raise money for Highland Hospice at a special event at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club.
It has been organised by Stephen Laurie who is one of the finalists in this year’s Ness Factor singing competition in aid of the Highland charity.
The 41-year-old business technology consultant from Nairn said it will be on Friday, October 21, and added: “This will be a fun day for teams of four people.
“It will be a Texas Scramble format with team prizes to be won. There will also be closest to the pin and longest drive competitions on the course.
“Players will be greeted with a bacon roll on arrival with tea or coffee. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.”
Mr Laurie said he was taking part because he thought the hospice was the “most amazing charity”. He said: “For 35 years Highland Hospice has cared for, supported and touched the hearts of people throughout the Highlands.
“Although I have not personally experienced the services provided by Highland Hospice, I have witnessed on a number of occasions the unbelievable dedication of the volunteers and staff.
“I am taking part in Ness Factor to help Highland Hospice continue their incredible work.”
He said he was also taking part because he loves to sing and added: “I’ve sang in a few musicals, in karaoke bars and in the shower – obviously.
“However, standing up solo in Ness Factor will be a challenge for me. I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to perform with like-minded people whilst raising vital funds for Highland Hospice.”
During the coming weeks the finalists are being coached in teams by singing coaches Tony Henry, Katy-Louise Mackay and Fiona Forbes.
Mr Laurie said he was really enjoying the singing and added: “I’m learning a lot about my voice and managing to hit notes that weren’t possible in the past.
“Fi is amazing. She’s helped me to become more confident in my ability. Anything is possible, you just need to breathe. I am loving it!”
He is married to Claire Laurie and they have three children – 13-year-old Rose, 11-year-old Emma and eight-year-old Euan.
As well as Mr Laurie the finalists are: Lisa Gray, Jennifer Urquhart, Fiona Clark, Donna Fraser, Andrew Gill, Caitlin Farquhar, Moira Black and Gregor Matheson.
The final will be on November 12 at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness and this year the winner will take home a grand prize of a performance slot at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival 2023.
It is the fifth year of the competition and also the 35th year of the hospice, making this show extra special.
