The countdown is on to an annual three-day food and drink festival in Nairn.

Taste of Nairn will be returning from May 10-12 with food and drink events taking place all over the town.

Since the debut Taste of Nairn in 2019, the event has attracted more support than ever before from sponsors according to organisers.

Nairn’s own Ashers Bakery has given its full support to the event since the start, but new sponsors have also come on board.

Ali Asher, of Ashers Bakery which has 12 outlets across the Highlands, Moray and Speyside, said: “We are thrilled to be part of Taste of Nairn once again.

“As a local family business in the food sector, getting involved in Taste of Nairn, was an obvious choice for us. The event has grown and evolved every year so we are delighted to see many others also wanting to support this fantastic event.”

Howden’s Joinery at Balmakeith Industrial Estate is sponsoring the demo room at the Nairn Community and Arts Centre where visitors can enjoy several demos and Haventus, the owner of Ardersier Port, is also supporting the event as a new sponsor.

Popular baker Makes by Megs will be the sponsor of the Showstopper Cake Competition which this year includes not only an amateur category but also one for professionals.

Megan Mclean, who co-owns Makes by Megs with Nicola Mackinlay, said they were delighted to be involved.

She said: “As a business, Makes by Megs and our café MNMS has always thrown its weight behind all the Nairn BID events. However, the Taste of Nairn is clearly a perfect fit for us and we are so pleased that this year we can support the cake contest. We have been able to take it up a notch this year and have also created a category for professionals. It’s shaping up to be a fun event and we urge people to come along and get involved.”

The World Tattie Scone Championships will also return for its 10th year.

This is run by the Oakwood Cookery School and is always a popular part of the event, where participants are asked to bring along a secret ingredient to make their tattie scone.

Highland Yoga Collective are also returning for a second year with a wellbeing hub.

The three-day event kicks off on May 10 with numerous businesses staging their own events over the weekend. These include wine tastings, live music, special menus, talks and tastings.

On Saturday, the town will be bustling with a town centre farmers’ market operated by Moray Markets and businesses creating market day offers and spilling out onto the street.

There will also be a food and drink market in the Nairn Community and Arts Centre where there will be numerous local producers, the World Tattie Scone Championships, Showstopper Cake Competition, Demo Room and Wellbeing Hub.

Nairn BID manager Lucy Harding said: “Taste of Nairn is a wonderful three-day event which showcases the very best the town and surrounding area has to offer when it comes to food and drink. We are grateful to the sponsors who have been involved since the start, but it’s also fantastic to have attracted new supporters. It’s a real endorsement that we are staging an event that people think is valuable to our town.”
