DELIGHTED organisers have spoken of their pride after more than 100 students were able to take part in a Highland Taekwon-do competition in Nairn for the first time since the Covid pandemic.

Six different clubs sent students aged between four and 11 to Nairn for the Highland Open ITF Taekwon-Do Competition on Saturday.

“For the majority of students it was their first taste of competing, and stepping onto the mats in front of a big audience was a big achievement in itself,” said IV black belt and Forres instructor, Maree McDonough.

“Trophies were awarded for sparring, patterns, power test and special technique kicking, with some impressive displays throughout the day.

“For the students being able to put into practice the skills they learn in their weekly classes, pitting themselves against their peers is a fantastic opportunity to develop courage, strength and resilience.

“As instructors, seeing our young students growing in confidence and giving their best efforts never fails to fill us with pride.”
