POLICE are investigating reports that a suspicious man approached a pupil near a school in Inverness.

Officers have issued letters to worried parents and held assembles with pupils at Drakies Primary School following the incident on Tuesday.

Police were alerted by the school after a concerned parent got in touch to say their child was approached on a path between Drummossie Avenue and MacKenzie Park Gardens.

“The child responded in the correct manner and subsequently walked away,” said a police spokesman.

“The man did not make any further effort to speak to the child and walked away in the direction of Drummossie Avenue.

“We would seek to reassure the public that extensive enquiries have been carried out into the matter and these remain ongoing at this time.

“To date, there are no further reports of the man approaching any other pupils of Drakies Primary School or other children in the immediate vicinity.”

The man is white, between 30 and 40-years-old and around 5ft 6in. He had facial stubble, was wearing a black beanie hat which was down over his eyebrows, a grey round neck t-shirt, a brown zipped jacket and blue jeans. He had a strong Scottish accent.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
