A SUSPECT package which sparked a bomb scare in Inverness this morning was "not suspicious", police have confirmed.

Emergency services were scrambled to Wimberley Way shortly after 8am following reports of the suspicious package.

"In the interest of public safety, a police cordon was established in the area and following enquiries into the matter, the package was found to be non-suspicious," said a police spokeswoman.

"We would like to praise the response of those involved in the incident, who acted entirely appropriately and we would thank the public for their patience and co-operation during the incident.

"We would seek this opportunity to remind members of the public that if you do notice anything suspicious or unusual, never involve yourself, never touch any suspicious packages, note descriptions, registration numbers and markings and call the police."
