Inverness actress Karen Gillan has added her support to Beauly mother Roz Paterson’s appeal to raise money for life-saving cancer treatment.

The campaign has been shared online with the hashtag #RaisingforRoz and Mrs Paterson’s story has been re-tweeted by celebrities including Miss Gillan and TV presenter Nick Knowles.

As the Inverness Courier previously reported Mrs Paterson (52) has been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer and, after four unsuccessful rounds of chemotherapy, is now trying to raise £500,000 to cover the cost of a procedure called Car-T cell therapy in the USA.

The local community has banded together to support Mrs Paterson in her effort to raise the money, with a range of events planned including a family bingo this Friday in the village’s Phipps Hall and a car wash, held by the community fire station, on Saturday.

A “Cuppa and Cake” event is also being organised for next Tuesday with home baking for sale in the church hall in Beauly.

Jean Wilson, one of the organisers of the event, said: “It’s all about making money for the cause and that’s why we’ve organised the event between 2pm and 4pm to hopefully catch mums going to pick up their kids from school.”

Mrs Paterson is also being supported by friends in Glasgow who have organised a music gig for the city’s Queen Margaret Union on Sunday, February 24.

The event’s organiser Carolina Perez said: “We currently have the band The Prime Evils confirmed, which Roz’s husband Malcolm used to be a member of.

“We are also in the process of organising a comedy night which we have been given the Yes Bar for. Former MSP Rosie Kane will be the compère as she is an old friend of Roz and myself, but we are yet to confirm a date.”
