Tornagrain residents enjoyed an afternoon of fun activities, great music – and lots of cake – at its annual Summer Picnic.

More than 300 people went to the event on Saturday which featured games, a quiz, a fundraising raffle, and the Great Tornagrain Bake-off.

The event was sponsored by Macleod and McCallum and supported by many local businesses and individual members of the community who provided donations and raffle prizes.

Local musicians Hanna and Beth, IV3 and Lewis Stevenson treated the crowd to entertainment throughout the afternoon, and the Tornagrain quiz gave people a chance to test their knowledge of the local area.

Fun activities included wheelbarrow races for young and old, as well as junior football and bouncy castles.

The first-ever Tornagrain Bake-off had dozens of entries providing strong competition and some fantastic cakes, biscuits and savouries that were then sold to raise funds.

The event raised nearly £900 which will be used to plan and run more community events and activities.

The picnic was organised by Tornagrain Community Association, which aims to bring people together through shared events and activities to help support a thriving and inclusive community.

Association chairwoman Ann Darlington said: “I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the fantastic success of Saturday's Summer Picnic. It was a wonderful afternoon of fun activities, great music – and lots of cake!

“We are grateful to our main sponsors for the event, Macleod and McCallum, and to all the local businesses who responded with amazing generosity to our appeal for donations of raffle prizes. Times are tough and it is heart-warming to see their commitment to building and sustaining bonds with this community.

“Above all, it was a fantastic day for the people from the wonderful new community of Tornagrain, and their families and friends, who turned out in such numbers to support the event and to have fun in the sun!”
