CHILDREN and adults of a West Nairnshire community came together for a successful litter picking event at the weekend.

The first litter picking event organised by Cawdor and West Nairnshire Community Council after two years of pause due to the pandemic was a huge success, with 30 people attending among adults and children.

The event, which is normally organised each year, saw past and present pupils of Cawdor Primary joining in the effort to clean up the area.

Community council secretary Lizzy Rose said it was great to be able to get together again, with the glorious weather as an added bonus.

"It was nice to get back doing community activities again," she added.

"The litter picking itself was done very quickly as there was really not much rubbish around, which was surprising to us. It meant we had more time to spend together afterwards having tea at the community centre.

"A big thank you to everyone who came along to help, especially the Cawdor pupils, past and present.

"I think it's really important to involve children in litter picking, it's a good lesson to learn, to keep the place tidy and I think the primary school were very supportive of the event."

The hope is now that the event will be able to run annually as in the past.
