ONE of Britain’s best-known sandwich shop chains could soon be filling a new city centre premises.

A planning application passed by Highland Council will allow a new Subway outlet to open in one of Eastgate Shopping Centre’s vacant Falcon Square units.

The popular eatery has three stores in Inverness – in Inglis Street, in Harbour Road and already within the shopping centre.

If finalised, the latter, in Eastgate’s upstairs food court, would close in favour of the premises beside the existing Burger King restaurant.

At 1530 sq ft, the Falcon Square unit would offer more space than Subway’s current Eastgate home and a prominent location.

Eastgate’s centre manager, Jackie Cuddy, said: “We’re really pleased that the second restaurant unit, next to Burger King, has gone under offer to Subway who are currently in the centre and looking to move. It is in solicitors’ hands. It is very positive news.”

Mike Smith, manager of Inverness Business Improvement District, said: “It is a larger unit they’re looking to take, so it shows growth for them. We’re very pleased to learn they have received planning permission.”

Applicant Liam Dalgarno, who runs five Subway outlets, could not be contacted yesterday.
