Scholarship winners at TFX Performing Arts Academy are looking forward to 2022

Three talented youngsters in Inverness are looking forward to the year ahead as they train to dance, sing and act.
The students were chosen in August for the Karen Gillan Scholarships based at TFX Performing Arts Academy in Inverness.
Hollywood star Karen attended the popular academy as a child, and wanted to give back to the place that helped her rise to fame.
Pupils Alicia Curtis (18), from Culloden Academy, Spike Coates (12), from Moray, and Molly Rose Newell (12), from Culbokie, were awarded with free lessons for a year, supported by the actress and the Inverness Courier.
They continue to put in hard work at their weekly training sessions and improve their skills, and are looking forward to a big show this summer to showcase their skills.
Teacher Amy Gallagher said Molly has been progressing excellently, and brings a sense of fun to classes: “She recently performed a solo song for us and it was amazing to see how much she has come on.”
Molly said: “TFX is a really nice place, I feel like I have made some good friends and everyone has been so nice and welcoming. I cannot wait to be in my first TFX show.
“The chance to be in such a complex and professional show makes me so excited!”
Spike is excited for the future and is looking forward to more opportunities. Teachers say he is stepping out of his comfort zone more, and brings enthusiasm to every class.
“I love TFX because it’s so fun,” he said. “It makes me feel excited for my weekends because I know everything good happens at TFX.
“Of course my biggest excitement this year will be the show at Eden Court.
“I’ve never performed on an Eden Court stage and I am so thrilled to get the opportunity.”
Long-time TFX student Alicia also works full-time in Inverness at Miele’s Gelateria, but will be leaving TFX this year.
Ms Gallagher said: “Alicia just oozes talent, it’s been great to see her working so hard on what will be her last show.
“She has such a special stage presence and always shines. This term it’s been great to see Alicia focused on the show material and acting like a true professional.”
Alicia said: “I have been attending TFX since I was so small and it really is my safe place.
“Everyone is so creative and quick to embrace everyone’s individuality. In 2022, I can’t wait for my last ever show with TFX.
“I remember my first one like it was yesterday and feel so emotional thinking about this being the end of an era for me. Of course I am looking forward to the performing aspect of the show but honestly for me it’s the friendships and memories made backstage that make it extra special.”
It is the return of the annual show for the first time since 2019 due to coronavirus restrictions.
