A student was thrown off of his joinery course with only months left after he drunkenly attacked two people on the Inverness Campus.

Arron Mackinnon, formerly from Portree but now living at Robert Street, Buckie appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to punching one man and throwing a bottle at another on May 31, last year.

Sheriff David Nicholson was told by fiscal depute Adele Gray that the 20-year-old had been at a party at one of the accommodation blocks but was taken away due to him becoming agitated.

"Two security officers came out and saw him without upper clothing and he became aggressive, saying he would 'spark them out'," she said. "He then calmed down and walked away but then returned and punched one man on the cheek. He then threw a bottle at the other before he ran away."

Defence solicitor Ken Ferguson said: "He was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He describes himself as being 'an idiot'. He was three-and-a-half years into a four-year course but had to leave because of this incident."

Sheriff Nicholson deferred sentence until July 31 next year for Mackinnon's good behaviour.
