A statement just released by Strathspey Steam Railway Company confirms that, after all, trains will not be running until further notice.

Hopes had been high that the Royal Scotsman carriages stranded at Aviemore after last night's low-speed collision with Flying Scotsman would be moved in time for a 1pm start of the local steam services to resume between Aviemore and Broomhill.

With the situation now out of the local company's hands, that has not proved possible, a spokesman said.

"The Royal Scotsman carriage set involved in last night's incident remains in Aviemore Platform 3.

"An ongoing inspection has deemed that the set requires to be split for further inspection. Consequently all services today have been cancelled.

Today: it was hoped that the Royal Scotsman carriages would have been moved, but further checks on their connections are required, say officials.

"As this is an evolving situation the Strathspey Railway will make a further statement regarding the Sunday services later today.

"The railway apologises to passengers, but we are working very hard to restore the current situation."

The Strathy will have more on this as it comes in.
