Stronelairg and Dunmaglass Wind Farm Scholarship Fund opens

Local STEM students can now apply for scholarship funding from two major Highland windfarm developments.

The Stronelairg and Dunmaglass Wind Farm Schoolship supports students undertaking courses focussed on science, technology, engineering, and maths courses.

The programme will be open to students who Strathspey and Badenoch, Fort Augustus and south Inverness-shire regions.

Six scholarships of £5,000 each will be awarded every year for three years to different students.

The new scholarship programme has been created to help local students with their expenses while creating a pool of well-trained and experienced professionals, transforming career prospects and positively impacting future generations.

Six scholarships of £5,000 each will be awarded every for the next three years to different students who are undertaking science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) courses in further education. The funds will support students with tuition fees at a key stage in their educations.

Stephen Lilley, director of Stronelairg Wind Farm Ltd and Dunmaglass Wind Farm Ltd, said: “We value community impact and are committed to developing the STEM workforce.

"We are delighted to be able to offer these scholarships to people in the local area as well as those entering the renewables profession.

Stronelairg Wind Farm Ltd and Dunmaglass Wind Farm Ltd is a partnership between SSE Renewables (51.1%) and Greencoat UK Wind Plc (49.9%).

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 13 September

To be eligible applicants need to live in one of the surrounding community council areas:

Laggan, Strathdearn, Stratherrick and Foyers, Strathnairn, Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston, Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry, Glengarry.
