ScotRail is warning all services between Inverness and Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen today could be hit by delays.

Passengers are being told to expect later running services on those routes as Storm Ciarán brings severe weather to parts of the country.

Network Rail is imposing speed limits across the rail network for safety reasons.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “Due to a speed restriction because of severe weather, trains have to run at reduced speed.

“Disruption is expected to last until around 12 noon tomorrow, Saturday November 4.

“The vast majority of the network will be unaffected and services will run as normal, but it will have an impact in some places.

“The safety of our customers and our staff is the top priority while you're travelling with us so please check your journey before you set off and expect delays so plan your journey and alternatives where possible.”

Passengers are advised to check all journeys before travel.
