A Highland-wide roll-out of 'twenty's plenty' speed limits is still open to feedback from members of the public and community groups.

Highland Council has issued a reminder that consultation on the 20 mph project remains active for the initiative that includes 125 Highland settlements, across 610 km of mostly local authority managed Highland roads.

The council launched the public consultation at the start of December with a short, on-line questionnaire.

It includes an easy-to-use interactive street map which allows any user to point out specific areas where they wish to see change or provide comment on.

Councillor Ken Gowans, chair of The Highland Council’s economy and infrastructure committee, said: “There is still time to take part in our consultation.

“It is important that as many people as possible take this chance to let us know of any supporting comments or any suggestions they have for changes.

“Local people know their areas best and all feedback we receive will be part of the decision-making process for the next phase of the project and will provide valuable feedback on the roll out to date.”

The 20mph speed limits on Trunk Roads (A9, A82, A835, A96, A95, A87, A86, A830) are the responsibility of Transport Scotland but people can still pass comments on those by using the council’s questionnaire.

The scheme is being fully funded by the Scottish Government who invited Highland Council to be an early adopter of 20mph limits.

The consultation will run until the end of January.
