The Stamping Ground is back at Eden Court this week with an updated production of the Highland musical created there as a co-production with RAW Material now set to tour Scotland.

The show has just completed two nights of previews (Friday and Saturday) and will run until next Saturday, May 13 before heading out on its first national tour.

Director Luke Kernaghan who has been with the production since the earliest rehearsals, said: “This is where we made the show in Inverness at Eden Court and the audience response last year kind of took our breath away. It’s a Highland story and so to bring it back and out on tour across Scotland, it feels only right that we start here where the show was made and bring it back to the audience who loved it so much.

“For us, as a company, what is really important is that this is a story about the Highlands and contemporary Highland life and actually before we take it all across Scotland it is really important that we come back here to say ‘Yes, this is why we are telling the story!’.”

As well as many rave reviews, the production won the CATS award (Critics' Awards for Theatre Scotland) for best music and sound.

As well as new actors including Julie Cadzow alongside original cast members, Luke confirmed there have been some tweaks.

“Fundamentally you learn about a show when you put it in front of an audience and the more it’s performed, the better you understand it.

“There are things that have been tweaked and edited and reworked, always in the service of ‘What’s going to make it the best evening’s entertainment and really tell the story?’. But we don’t want to mess with it. We won a CATS Award which was an incredible achievement and something we hadn’t really expected.

“We will be buffing it up to shine that little bit brighter as we take this incredible story and music across Scotland.”

The Stamping Ground is at Eden Court from Tuesday until Saturday, May 13. TICKETS:
