Stagecoach Highlands again says 'Sorry' for Inverness and North service slump

Bus company Stagecoach Highlands has again apologised to customers for service levels over recent days, but said their percentage figures weren't too bad.

On Tuesday (July 11) the company used social media to issue a warning to the travelling public that all services across Inverness and the Highlands could be subject to cancellation or delay at short notice.

A spokesperson blamed the drop in service on the "on-going" driver shortage and further driver sickness.

Today a spokeswoman added that the school holidays had exacerbated the driver shortage situation.

She said: "Unfortunately we have been unable to operate at our normal service levels on some occasions recently, and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.

"The skills shortage that we, like many others, are continuing to experience is due to several factors, and unfortunately there is no quick fix.

"Whilst we are working hard on recruitment, holidays (particularly now the school term has ended), and sickness do have an impact."

She added: "However, over 96% of services operated as normal over the past week, and the average percentage of services unable to operate over the last 10 weeks was just 2%."

The company has urged would be travellers: "For live times updates on all services please download the Stagecoach App."

Annoyingly, when this app confirms the service you wanted to use has been cancelled, it also tells the frustrated passenger how much greenhouse gas would have been saved compared with a car - on the electric bus trip that wasn't running!

Good to know...
