Staff raised more than £1500 in just a week for the cause.

The team at Munro and Noble, in Church Street, Inverness were encouraged to make their fundraising push by local businessman Thomas Machnik, who runs city-based cleaning and facilities management company Te-aM.

Mr Machnik has been using his local business contacts to secure support from companies and individuals for the many thousands of Ukrainian refugees who have fled to neighbouring Poland in search of safety following the Russian invasion.

Mr Machnik has established contact with the Polish Red Cross in Lublin, close to the Ukrainian border, to find out what is needed most by those fleeing the conflict, and how the people of the Highlands can help them.

Munro and Noble, which employs 49 staff across all its departments, was among the many businesses locally which have risen to the challenge.

Group sales and marketing manager Duncan Chisholm said: “Thomas Machnik, a friend and business associate of Munro and Noble, contacted us to say that he is organising a humanitarian appeal for the Ukrainian refugees.

“With the situation becoming so desperate in eastern Europe, all the staff were very keen to help.

“In seven days, the staff have rallied around, raising more than £1500; an amazing effort for such a deserving cause.

“These funds have now been donated and will be used for medical supplies, essential clothing including blankets, water supplies and food.

“Thank you Thomas Machnik for galvanising the Munro and Noble team into action.”

Mr Machnik visited Munro and Noble to collect the funds from solicitor Matthew Albiston and trainee solicitors Freya Macleod and Stephen Grant and thank the team for their support.
