Govan Law Centre has launched a Debt Navigator website debtnavigator.scot to improve access to good quality independent and impartial money advice, across Scotland. Access to good independent advice is key to increasing sustainable outcomes for those struggling with debt and money worries. The site continues to evolve and new content, features and tools are being added regularly.

The website directs you to our online services and encourages you to click on icons for problem areas: consumer debt, mortgage arrears, rent arrears, problem debts.

You can access updated information, many online tools and template letters to send to creditors and a ‘chatbot’ which can guide you further.

A key feature of our site is the web-chat function which provides direct access to one of our money advisers or solicitors, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. They will work with you to help find a solution.

It’s fair to say that many of the UK and Scottish Government actions over the past 18 months have been effective in preventing a massive increase in evictions, homelessness and financial destitution.

However, for many, when lockdown ends, the problems start. Government support has all but ended: Furlough, Universal Credit increases, Self Employed Income Support Scheme, debt forbearance by creditors (meaning more court actions, higher interest, sequestration, attachments orders, car finance payments, rent and mortgage arrears, unmanageable debt), evictions proceedings in social and private rented sector, repossession proceedings as lender mortgage holiday ends.

Debtnavigator.scot is funded by the Scottish Legal Aid Board (SLAB) Debt Advice Journey Programme to improve free debt and money advice services, and improve user experience across Scotland.

Govan Law Centre specialist debt and money advisers, as well as solicitors, are here to help you with expert and professional advice, solutions and representation.

Wherever you are in Scotland, the service covers all areas including the Highlands and Islands. Contact debtnavigator.scot where you will be taken step by step through debt advice and solutions.

We have developed a National Referral Network across Scotland and covering all local authority areas. After obtaining the advice and guidance you need from our specialised staff, we can contact a local community debt and money adviser or agency on your behalf to help you.
