Clare Humphreys is a Proctor Gallagher-certified personal and professional development coach based in the Highlands and 2020 Highland Business Women (HBW) Highland Businesswoman of the year. Here she explains how a transformational coach can help you achieve your goals.
For many people, there is one thing that stands in the way of what they would like to achieve – themselves.
They realise that to unlock that potential, something has to change in their mindset or behaviour, but making that change is not always that simple.
That is the point when you might need to call on the services of a transformational coach who can help you identify the changes you need to make – and how to make them.
How does a transformational coach work?
Clare Humphreys has seen the impact coaching can make in her own life.
After a successful career in HR, she took her interest in personal development further by studying with one of the leading figures in the field, Bob Proctor, and qualifying as a Proctor Gallagher accredited coach.
"A transformational coach shows you how to step outside the subconscious programming producing negative results in your life and go on to change it, permanently and positively," she explained.
"Whether you choose a coach for personal or professional development the emphasis is on transformation, not training.”
To help a client achieve this transformation, a coach will take them through a number of steps.
Use a structured programme
As a qualified Proctor Gallagher Institute coach, Clare draws on a technique that has over 75 years of intensive research behind it.
"This technique, which works on a one to one or a group basis, helps you to see past the limits of your conscious mind into the boundless potential of your subconscious mind in order to realise your goals," Clare said.
Create a good rapport
For the transformation to work, client and coach must trust each other and be completely honest, otherwise it will be difficult to address the real problem.
"Do you actually want to succeed in X and Y or are you simply trying to please others and what you really want is to try Z?" Clare asked.
Hold you accountable
"Many people say accountability is one of the key reasons for them being successful in completing this course," Clare revealed.
"I make sure that you stay true to your promise to achieve the programme objectives."
"In turn, the coach must be accountable too. It’s a two-way process that demonstrates not only accountability but honesty and integrity.
"Without accountability, a transformational coach isn’t any good."
Challenge your habits and beliefs
Clare can help you look at those habits which are holding you back, examine where they come from, and turn “I’m not” into “I am”.
"Have you ever thought about where your beliefs come from and how they influence the person you are and what you believe yourself to be capable of? You haven’t? Prepare to have your mind blown," Clare said.
Support you (through the good and the bad)
Change is not easy, so if a client needs support, Clare is only a phone call or a WhatsApp away to answer queries, help with focus or encourage self-study and self reflection.
"You might find yourself feeling apprehensive, overwhelmed or upset at certain moments," she acknowledged.
"A good coach is there to support you through it all."
Advice from an experienced transformational coach
A good transformational coach helps clients look objectively at their situation for a clearer understanding of what they wish to achieve and from there help them implement the changes that will lead them to those goals.
"None of this will be helpful, however, unless you have actively made the decision to change," Clare cautioned.
"Your coach takes the energy of your will and determination and directs it into a positive process of engagement, understanding and implementation."
To find the coach that is right for you, Clare recommends taking your time, doing lots of research and asking lots of questions to ensure they can achieve that vital relationship of mutual respect and cooperation, but it is also important to trust your gut.
"Do you have a good feeling about them? If not, that’s okay. It’s much better to move on rather than go with someone you’re not quite sure about," Clare added.
As for Clare herself, she is always happy to have a chat and answer any questions from potential clients.
"Please feel free to get in touch with me for a free, no-strings chat to talk through some of your options," Clare said.
