The Scottish SPCA is recruiting for volunteer wildlife drivers in the Inverness region.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity is seeking individuals with practical experience of working with animals to uplift wildlife casualties from their wildlife station in Inverness and transport them to the Society’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross.

Scottish SPCA chief inspector Iain Allan said, “Becoming a volunteer wildlife driver is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about Scottish wildlife.

“Last year we admitted 4,908 animals to our wildlife hospital, and we couldn’t have done this without the vital support from our volunteer wildlife drivers.

“Spring and summer are the busiest times of the year for calls to our animal helpline for wildlife needing our help.

“From hedgehogs and rabbits to birds of prey, you will make such an impact to the lives of the wild animals you transport.

“To carry out this role you will require a full UK driving licence. You will be provided with a Scottish SPCA van to drive and all fuel costs will be paid by the Society. Full training will also be given and necessary PPE and equipment will be provided.

“Driving from our wildlife station in Inverness to our wildlife hospital is a six to seven hour round trip, so this role would suit someone who enjoys driving.

“Volunteering with us is incredibly rewarding and, in return for your time and commitment, you will gain invaluable experience helping Scotland's leading animal charity.

“If this sounds like the perfect fit, we’d love to hear from you!”
