RATHER than slaving over a hot stove on Christmas Day, a number of hotels in the Inverness area can provide a meal as an easier alternative.

Hotels, as well as some pubs and restaurants, are part of a small selection of businesses to open their doors tomorrow.

The Drumossie Hotel in Inverness is offering both a Christmas Day Restaurant Lunch, as well as a family carvery.

Kingsmills Hotel and Ness Walk are fully booked for Christmas Day but there are still some available places for their events on Boxing Day.

Jurys Inn will be serving food until 4pm and drinks until 9pm on Christmas Day – on Boxing Day it is business as usual with food until 10pm and drinks until 11pm.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a restaurant then Jimmy Chung’s Chinese buffet in Bank Street will be open from noon-8pm. However, instead of the usual buffet arrangement they will be offering a special menu on the day.

For residents and visitors preferring a visit to a pub on Christmas Day at least three venues will be open. Lauders will be operating normal hours and at one point, probably between 3pm and 5pm, it is usually the only pub open in the city.

The Caledonian will be open from 4pm-3am, just for drinks, with a DJ and live entertainment from 6pm.

Johnny Foxes will be open from 6.30pm-3am, offering just drinks, and from 10.30pm there will be music, a DJ and cocktails on offer.

Volunteers will be organising a free, three-course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, at Ness Bank Church from 12.30pm. At the same time, Inverness Cathedral will have an open table for a Christmas meal.

And youngsters in care have not been forgotten because Highland Council has organised an event for them in Inverness on Christmas Day.

Merry Champsmas will take place between 1pm and 6pm at Canal Park Pavilion.

It will be hosted by The Highland Champs youth club with support from the council and the Calman Trust.
