Police on mobile patrol in Inverness were stopped by members of the public concerned about a man who had been drinking threatening to drive home.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that officers tracked down 23-year-old Jamie McNally, of Leven Court, Alloa driving out of Morrisons car park in Inverness and arrested him at around midnight on October 19, 2022.

McNally admitted driving with excess alcohol. His reading was 86mcgs of alcohol in his breath when the limit is 22mcgs.

Defence solicitor David Patterson told Sheriff Robert Frazer: "He was a serving soldier at the time and was using alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with stress.

"After this incident, he was disciplined by the Army and left. He is now working as a valeter. His alcohol use has stopped."

McNally was banned from driving for 20 months due to the high reading and fined £420.
