A SOLAR-POWERED car called in at Inverness on its way from John O’Groats to Haywards Heath last week.

The Ardingly Ifield Solar Car Tour from August 2-11 is a project by Ardingly College and Ifield Community College, Sussex, to highlight sustainable transport and to raise money for charity.

Curious and fascinated members of the public gathered round the car, called the Basking Beastie, and asked the student team questions about the vehicle.

The battery is designed to power a small home when not travelling.

Ardingly Ifield Solar (AIS) has been working with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) for nearly a decade now and it has played a pivotal role in the construction of all the students’ solar cars so far. AIS are now working with the IMI on three major projects, including a flat-pack solar car for the developing world.
